Design History
The roots of the mushroom lamp design stem from the modernist and mid-century movements of the 1960s. The initial ‘mushroom lamp’ was first designed and created by Giancarlo Mattioli, an Italian designer and architect, and commisioned by Artemide. The playful, cosmic-like mushroom shape and vibrant orange colour was really a testatment to this time as more and more art was influenced by sci fi imagery like 2001: A Space Odyssey. Since its inception, the mushroom table lamp has been an globally iconic furniture piece.
